Beqa Adventure Divers, Fiji
Before we went to Fiji, we were suggested to by my boss of all people, to check out Beqa Lagoon.
It was on the opposite side of the Island from where we were staying, but we made the booking through our resort and they organised us a Taxi to take us the 2hr trip there.
The trip was long for us because of where we were staying, but it ended up being definitely worth it. So far, this dive has been the best diving I have done so far. Beqa Lagoon for those that don't know is a fantastic site where you can dive safely (well, relatively) with all manner of sharks. They say this site has 8 different species of sharks, we saw 5 of them, but everyone comes here to see the Bull sharks. And there were lots of them. There are apparently 2 dive operators in the area, so our dive guide told us, and they alternate days so they dont distract the sharks from one another. This then gives customers the most sharks for their money. We were swimming with around 20 bull sharks, all seeming to range between 2-4m and they got CLOSE. Now if this sounds scary, well.. it is. Until you get into the water. On the boat, my fiance and I were pretty nervous, but once we were in the water and descending, we forgot all about how scary they are. Then when we finally saw them, all we had to do was sit on the bottom and watch them swim by.
As well as the sharks, there were also HEAPS of fish, big ones too, and a couple of morays. There were about 8 paid divers and probably about 6 dive masters with us, so the numbers were small enough that it wasn't a busy dive with people everywhere, but we also felt very safe. As myself and my fiance were the least experienced in the group, we were assigned our own dive master to watch over us.
The value was great, the marine life was amazing and then feel of the whole operation seemed professional as well as very private and safe. The only issue that I could think of was that the dive depth on their website had said ~22m and they let us, open water certified on the dive, which 4m isn't that big of a difference. But once we were on the boat and heading to our first dive, we were told that the dive was in fact 30m. Im still glad they let us dive with them without advanced certification, but as we weren't expecting such a deep dive, we were a bit nervous. Everything ended up fine and we also now have our advanced certification in case of any more surprises.
