Dive Overview

Truk Lagoon's waters are calm and offer excellent diving year round. The Islands and fringing coral reefs that encircle Truk Lagoon provide a protective barrier from large waves and strong ocean currents.

This strategically located natural harbor is why the Imperial Japanese Navy made Chuuk one of their most important naval bases during World War II. The Blue Lagoon Resort is located at its historic epicenter, on Weno (Moen) Island.

Truk Lagoon's most popular wrecks are a short ride from the Blue Lagoon Resort.

From early morning diving to night diving. From wreck diving to spectacular coral reefs. Air - Nitrox - Mixed Gas, the Blue Lagoon Dive Shop will work to arrange it for you.

The Blue Lagoon Dive Boats are ideal for CCR divers and tech divers.

The Blue Lagoon Dive Shop is Truk Lagoon's first dive operation, est. 1973. It's a complete dive facility with more than 10 dive boats and 250 scuba tanks. Much like having your own dive boat on Truk Lagoon, the Blue Lagoon Dive Shop has multiple dive boats to assure smaller dive groups and maximum flexibility. The crews are well experienced and consist of a boat driver and dive guide.

The Blue Lagoon Resort has a nice tropical feel to it. My room was huge! I had 2 beds to myself, a small fridge, and a descent size bathroom. I had an amazing view of the ocean from my patio. If you want a more tropical vacation atmosphere go with Blue Lagoon. The only bad part of the Blue Lagoon was the quality of the food and the slow service from the waitresses at the restaurant. It is the cheaper of the 2 choices, Truk Stop being the other option. Truk Stop is more of a hotel. On more than one occasion we paid the $5 and took a 15 minute van ride so that we could eat at the Truk Stop. The Truk Stop's food was DELICIOUS!!! They served cherry cheesecake too!!!!! If I get a chance to go back, I think I will go through Truk Stop just to try both out. Plus, I've heard good things about their dive shop.

No matter where you stay, Truk Lagoon needs to be on your bucket list!!!!

We have stayed at Blue Lagoon 3 times (Oct. 07,March 08, June 10) and going back next on Aug. 15th. We're going on our 7th year in Micronesia and without a doubt...Truk Lagoon is our favorite dive location.
AIRPORT/ARRIVAL
When arriving/departing visit the "lei ladies" just outside. They make the most beautiful haku lei for just a few dollars. No ATM near the resort, be sure to have cash(small bills) before you arrive. There are banks in town, have your driver stop if you need to use one. You can also stop at a local store if you wish to buy some snacks to keep in your room. There used to be a very small store on the hotel grounds...not sure if it's still in business. They were working on the roads in 2010...let's hope the ride on the bus/mini-van won't be too bumpy.
THE "RESORT"
If you don't want to pay more $$$ for a liveaboard then you stay here or at the Truk Stop Hotel in town. The museum to honor Truk Lagoon diving's founding father, Kimiuo Aisek, is nearing completion. This resort was originally a Japanese seaplane base prior to WWII. The property was developed as a hotel for Air Micronesia, later Continental Micronesia, now United. The hotel is now locally owned and always in need of some maintenance. She's ragged around the edges but the place is always kept very clean and the grounds on the resort are always immaculate. You will have a large container in the bathroom that dispenses drinking water, a refrigerator that might be rusty and air con that chugs along. No cable TV, but you have one in your room, bring DVD's I think they still have players in the office, or you can watch something on your tablet device/computer. You DON'T come here for a fancy room...you come here for the wreck diving. At the end of a day's diving you can sit, relax and watch the sunset and drink a cold beer...this place works just fine.
THE RESTAURANT
The restaurant will be your stop for breakfast, lunch & dinner. The menu is varied, but nothing fancy. Don't expect lots of fresh vegetables unless it's local fare. The fruit plate is going to have LOTS of papaya and banana. Moen donuts were a favorite for my kids, along with the banana pancakes. You also can't go wrong by ordering the local tuna. You will get to know the wait staff by the end of your stay...they are a fine bunch of ladies. Sadly, Julia, the dining room manager and longest serving employee of Blue Lagoon passed away this last April. We remember her fondly. The wifi "should" work in the restaurant...but your best bet is the office/lobby.
DIVING
Many people stay away from Truk thinking it's all about super deep dives & deep wreck penetration. We have dove (dived) here with our 4 children with no issues. No matter what your level of experience, the shop can take care of you. There are PLENTY of dives above 65 feet. Go and enjoy the dense coral growth or explore deep inside the wrecks...you can work it out with your guide. If you're looking for amazing visibility...this isn't the place for you, but the nutrient rich waters provide for amazing soft coral growth. The dive boats are not fancy...wood benches and no rinse tub for camera gear. Boats are small so you should only have 6 divers per boat. Bring small bills for walk-abouts on Parem. This money goes to the local chief. There are some Zeros located in shallow water near the end of the old runway, they may charge a few dollars to snorkel there. You can also arrange for a land tour of Eten. We always bring good quality school supplies & candy for the kids on the outlying islands.

We stayed here because it's advertised as a resort with a great location and on-site dive operation. The grounds are immaculate and well kept. It's located next to the ocean and the views are spectacular. The dive shop has its own mixing station and can give you any percentage you ask for, including tri-mix. The dive guides are very professional and knowledgeable. Individual gear lockers are not provided and storage is in a large communal area. The boats were good and the trips to the dive sites are pretty quick, since the resort is close.

Our room had a king size bed, balcony, and refrigerator. We found the room, furniture, and linens to be old and dated. The food in the restaurant was adequate, but nothing to write home about. Wifi is available in the reception area, but is spotty, at best. This resort is the original hotel on Chuuk and has not aged well. A refurbish and upgrade are due.

Be sure to visit the small museum at the resort. It will give you insight into the history of Truk Lagoon. Keep in mind that Chuuk is a very remote and impoverished island. It's not an ideal vacation destination, but a fantastic dive destination, unlike anywhere else in the world. The world class wreck diving outweighs the shortcomings of the resort. Add Truk Lagoon to your bucket list.

This is the only resort option for divers in Chuuck, and while it could never be classed as a high-end resort it does offer an escape from the slightly chaotic vibe on the rest of the island. The reception and restaurant area is very clean and in good condition, although this is the only area that WiFi is available. Rooms are chalet-style huts spread around the grounds.
There is an indoor restaurant and a bar down by the waterfront. I didn’t dive here, but the dive operation seems well-organized at first glance. This resort is a long way from luxury, but it is one of the only acceptable options on this very poor island.
