Weather Conditions

From late November to early December, expect warm and tropical weather with daytime temperatures ranging from 75-85°F (24-29°C). The sea conditions are generally calm, offering excellent visibility for diving and whale-watching. This period provides ideal conditions for exploring the island’s marine life and enjoying outdoor activities.

Dominica is renowned for its vibrant marine life, with a particular emphasis on its sperm whale population. As the world’s first Sperm Whale Sanctuary, the island’s waters are home to multiple sperm whale families, making it a premier destination for whale enthusiasts. These majestic creatures can often be seen socializing, breaching, and even performing vertical dives. Dominica’s rich marine biodiversity also includes colorful coral reefs, diverse fish species, and other marine mammals, all set against the backdrop of clear, nutrient-rich waters that support a thriving underwater ecosystem. Besides sperm whales, guests also have the chance to see dolphins, sea turtles, colorful coral reefs, diverse fish species, and occasionally manta rays and small reef sharks.

Itinerary

  • First Day: Arrival
  • Your adventure begins when you land at Melville Hall Airport, Dominica, where a taxi will be waiting for you.
  •  3 – 10 Days of Sperm Whale Searching and Encounters
  • Get ready for five fulfilling days of exploring Dominica’s waters, searching to swim with sperm whales in Dominica . You may also encounter other cetacean species native to these azure waters. Throughout the journey, the team ensure you’re well-provisioned with plenty of tropical fruit, beverages, and a satisfying lunch on board. The sea conditions typically range from calm to moderate, with winds picking up in the afternoon.
  • Last Day: Departure
  • The time comes to bid farewell to Dominica. We’ll arrange for your return transfer to the airport, ensuring a smooth end to your memorable journey with these magnificent creatures.

About the Trip Leader

Amos Nachoum is an internationally acclaimed wildlife and underwater photographer and explorer. With a career spanning more than four decades, he has dedicated his life to capturing extraordinary images of elusive aquatic and land animals and inspiring others to understand and respect the natural world.

His extraordinary work has won him numerous awards. Notably, he is a two-time winner of the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. His work has also been recognized by National Geographic, the World Press Photo, and the United Nations Environmental Program, among others. His images have appeared in prominent publications worldwide, including National Geographic Magazine, Time, Life, The New York Times, Condé Nast Traveler, and many others. 

As an expedition guide, Amos is known for his meticulous planning and vast experience navigating challenging environments. He instills confidence in his team members, always prioritizing safety and respect for the natural world. His deep understanding of marine life and their habitats, coupled with his ability to anticipate and adapt to changing conditions, makes him an invaluable mentor to those fortunate to journey with him. Guests can begin their adventure by flying in at Melville Hall Airport in Dominica, where a taxi will be waiting to transfer them to Coulibri Ridge Eco Lodge.
