KOMODO

Komodo National Park is located within the Lesser Sunda Islands in the border region between the provinces of East Nusa Tenggara and West Nusa Tenggara.  The park includes the three larger islands Komodo, Padar and Rinca, and 26 smaller ones, with a total area of 1,733 km2 (603 km2 of its land).  The area was made a National Park in 1980 to protect the Komodo dragon, the world’s largest lizard.  Later it was dedicated to protecting other species, including marine species and in 1991 the park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Komodo National Park has been selected as one of the “New 7 Wonders of Nature”, and is part of the Coral Triangle, which contains some of the richest marine biodiversity on Earth.  There are over 100 different dive sites, more than 1000 species of fish, 350 different types of coral and over 1000 individual mantas have been identified.

Please note that the following are proposed itineraries only and we can be subject to change depending on weather and sea conditions during the trip.

KOMODO 3-DAY TRIP

  • Total 9 Dives
  • Day 1
  • Meet at Mikumba Dive Centre in Labuan Bajo, complete all paperwork and collect payment for park fees and fit equipment if required. (Park fees must be paid in cash)
  • We walk down to the harbor where our speedboat will pick us up at the jetty and take us to our home for the next few days.
  • We start the trip by serving you a welcome drink as our Cruise Director introduces the boat crew and dive guides on board. You then get a boat briefing while heading out to Komodo National Park, and we’ll show you to your cabin and around the rest of the boat.
  • After the orientation we’ll set up your dive equipment, before gathering in the dining area again to continue with a safety briefing, then we brief you about the dive site where we’ll do our check dive.  We normally go to a protected area for this, like Sebayur Kecil, but if your group is more experienced we can take you to Tatawa Besar if the current isn’t too crazy.
  • We do a 2nd Dive in the Central of the Park and then head to Kalong to watch the famous flying foxes before cruising to Wainilu for our night dive.
  • Day 2
  • 6:00 Wakey wakey & small breakfast
  • 6:45 Head to Rinca for an early morning dragon tour to avoid the crowds
  • 8:30 Big breakfast
  • 3 Dives in Central area of the park (maybe a manta dive or Batu Bolong) and then we head North
  • 19:30 Dinner
  • Day 3
  • 6:30 Wakey wakey & small breakfast
  • 7:00 Briefing Castle Rock
  • 9:00 Big breakfast
  • 10:30 Briefing Crystal Rock
