Feel free to ask us if you would like to know more about these dive sites. You can also check out the Cozumel Dive Travel Guide page for more information about diving in this area.

Cozumel Palace Resort

  • PALANCAR - shallow part: Depth: 35 - 40 feet. Large caverns and underwater highways. Palancar Horseshoe packed with series of giant coral heads, a wall dive, the slopes of snowy white sand slide off into the deep blue resembling a ski slope. Palancar Caves with abundant marine life Palancar Bricks, is just the beginning of an almost three-mile stretch of caves, canyons, overhangs and gardens. Coral ravines, narrow crevices. The Gardens are a bit shallow common spot for sighting turtles, snappers, angelfish, Bermuda chub, rays, jacks and triggerfish.
  • SANTA ROSA WALL: Depth: 50 - thousands of feet. The wall drops off to infinity. This expansive reef is filled with huge
  • coral mounds. Currents sometimes run strong here. Usually excellent with parrotfish, massive richly colored sponges, giant sea fans, bright orange tube sponges, and gorgons.
  • LAS PALMAS REEF: Depth: Wall starts at 40 feet Shalows, one of the best spots. Marine life includes sponges, gorgonians, lobster, crab, golden tail eels, spotted morays, puffer fish and many parrot fish.
  • BARRACUDA REEF: Depth: 70 - 90 feet. Mountainous coral ridges with peaks, especially treacherous. Abundant sea life with turtles, schools of jacks, ocean triggers and rainbow fish.

Simply, Cozumel Palace, is touted as one of the nicest hotels on Cozumel. It's not a "cheap" hotel, and the service, food, and accommodations reflect that. We had a Concierge Level room, which gave us a pillow menu, top floor ocean view, and some other niceties. The Cozumel Palace has multiple restaurants, bars, and a buffet. You can eat and drink to your heart's content, and the food was great -- especially the afternoon guacamole they put out daily. The staff is top notch, and takes care of everything. They had rental cars on site, which made taking a day to drive around very easy.

The dive operation on site was professional and accommodating to a diverse group. We chose the "slow boats" on purpose because they had shade and a head (bathroom). We didn't do any shore diving during our stay, as the conditions didn't allow it -- the red flag was up the whole week. We dove the wreck (C-53) one day, and the rest of the time along the walls and other popular sites. My favorite was Palancar Bricks as we saw a couple nurse sharks snoozing under a ledge and a couple turtles. We did one night dive at Paradise Reef, and found a couple octopus and a lot of lobsters.

Overall, we would definitely stay at the Cozumel Palace again! It's centrally located, making it easy to walk to town to visit bars, restaurants, shops, etc.

We traveled to Cozumel in 2013 and stayed at the Cozumel Palace. We've been to Cozumel several times over the last few years but this was our first stay at the Palace. I would definitely describe the Palace as an upscale resort. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We stayed in an ocean view junior suite that had a sitting room, Jacuzzi tub, and a large shower in the bathroom. Each room also had a safe. The Palace is an all-inclusive resort with three themed restaurants for dinner and a buffet breakfast. You can also order meals at the pool side grill. I would rate the food as above average for a resort and the grill offered lots of sandwiches that were very good. Diving is offered at the resort but from what I saw they run more of a cattle boat operation, and I would not use them.

I have dived throughout the Caribbean, and have concluded that you will never see more fish life than what you will see in Cozumel, and this trip was no exception. We did 12 dives over 7 days and found the coral and sea life colorful and abundant. We did wall dives, drift dives, and he also took us through several swim throughs as well. On one dive we saw a large school of French grunts, several large green eels, large queen and grey angels, a turtle, a beautiful eagle ray, and lots of hard corals. On every dive you will see schools of fish, queen angels, grey angels, parrot fish, and lots of wonderful coral formations. There was not one dive that I thought was terrible. On several dives the current was somewhat strong but manageable, and if Luis found something he would tell us to duck down behind a coral to get out of the current, and then point out what he had found. If you want to see sharks, you will find nurse sharks frequently. All-in-all, it was a great trip and we plan on going back again either this year of the next.
