Best Places to Swim or Dive with Whale Sharks: Our Top 6
Socorro Islands
Bluewater Travel’s 2025 Cozumel Photo Workshop at Iberostar featured vibrant reefs, warm water, and expert photo instruction, with highlights including splendid toadfish, turtles, and sharks.
Cozumel might be best known for its crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life, but there's so much more to this island than meets the eye. For decades, Scuba Club Cozumel has been at the heart of the island's diving community and has been one of Bluewater Travel’s longest-standing partners. That’s why we were deeply saddened to hear that Scuba Club Cozumel will cease operations on August 31, 2024.  Â

Scuba Club Cozumel, founded in the early 1980s, has long been a beloved destination for divers from around the world. Its commitment to providing a dive-centric experience and a focus on marine conservation made it a standout choice for many of our guests. Scuba Club Cozumel was more than just a place to stay—it was a place to grow as a diver, meet like-minded adventurers, and explore Cozumel’s vibrant reefs. The resort's closure is a significant loss for the diving community, marking the end of an era filled with countless memories and underwater explorations.Â
The news of Scuba Club Cozumel's closure is not just a business decision; it's a poignant moment for the global diving community, including us at Bluewater Travel. It’s a place where many of our guests have created unforgettable memories, returning time and again to experience the resort’s warm hospitality, dedicated staff, and unparalleled diving experiences. The legacy of Scuba Club Cozumel will live on in the stories shared by those who experienced its magic, but its absence will undoubtedly leave a void in Cozumel’s diving scene.
Â

Despite this sad news, Cozumel remains one of the top diving destinations in the world. This small island off the coast of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula is part of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, the second-largest coral reef system globally. The island's dive sites are famous for their stunning visibility, diverse marine life, and range of experiences that cater to divers of all levels.Â
For U.S. citizens, Cozumel offers an easy and convenient escape. Direct flights from many major U.S. cities make getting to Cozumel a breeze, and once there, the combination of world-class diving, rich culture, and warm hospitality makes it an ideal destination for a diving vacation.Â
