Dive Overview

Scuba diving in Indonesia is simply a must for any avid diver. Hosting over 25% of the world’s fish species, as well as over 72% of the worldwide coral species, Indonesia is often cited as the world's epicenter of biodiversity with the greatest marine life variety ever recorded on earth, alongside the Philippines and a small number of other Coral Triangle destinations.

Diving in Raja Ampat is characterized by its mindblowing diversity, featuring a plethora of medium to large size fish, good macro, and great hard and soft coral reefs, along with some muck and mangrove sites. The water temperatures hover at around 89°F (31°C) year-round--so warm that a wetsuit is hardly needed. The archipelago's topside scenery is also stunning.

You'll find one of the highest numbers of fish species of any place on the planet when diving in Raja Ampat, making it one of our top 5 underwater photography destinations. This area also hosts some of the world's most beautiful coral reefs.

Kayak through the turquoise waters of this stunning seascape or rejoice in the richest marine biodiversity that you’ll ever get the pleasure of experiencing on this planet. Explore word-renowned dive sites such as Melissa’s Garden, Boo Windows or Air Borek Jetty.

  • Day 1: Welcome Aboard
  • We’ll collect you in style at your hotel or Sorong Airport and drive you to the fast boat that will bring you to Waisai, the capital of Raja Ampat where the cruise begins.
  • Settle in to your traditional Phinisi liveaboard that you will be calling home for the next few days. Cruise west and enjoy a swim, a check dive or just relax, while gazing at the white sandy beaches of Mioskon Island and its famous sea mount, Blue Magic.
  • Enjoy an evening drink as you watch the sunset ballet of fruit bats flying around to feed.
  • Day 2: North Batanta
  • North Batanta boasts shining waters and dozens of islets and sand banks where you could come face to face with manta rays or delve into history as you explore a heavily-barnacled World War II Japanese aircraft.
  • Venture on land for a short walk to a beautiful and refreshing waterfall.
  • Finish your day lazing on the sun deck as you continue sailing south towards Misool Island.
  • Day 3: Daram islands
  • The Daram Islands are the easternmost island group in the Misool area. Thanks to a strict no-fishing policy, you will be able to see some of the most impressive sea fan forests and soft corals known to the world.
  • With easy snorkelling and diving, sites such as Andiamo or Candy Store are truly psychedelic underwater wonderlands where it’s not uncommon to see barracudas gliding above pygmy seahorses.
  • Day 4: South East Misoo
  • Swim round the famous dive sites of Boo Window and Magic Mountain, with some of the highest concentration of biodiversity in the world. This is a true story of successful conservation, thanks to the talented and friendly local park rangers who will be delighted to meet you on the white sandy beaches of Yillet Island.
  • South East Misool is one of the extremely rare places where dreams and reality merge into one, with scenery just as lush and dramatic above the water as below.
  • Day 5: Wayil area
  • Climb to higher grounds and bask in the beauty of the famous heart-shaped blue lagoon encircled by vibrant coral reefs.
  • Alternatively, you could take a speed boat tour or kayak, and get lost in the maze of rocks and channels of Wayil Islands.

  • Day 6: Balbulol & Farondi
  • Misool’s north eastern line of islands is a natural labyrinth made of cone-shaped rocks, sheer cliffs and hidden pools. At the right time of year, some of the inner lagoons play host to thousands of stingless jellyfish, offering fantastic photo opportunities for undersea photo lovers.
  • Explore the above and underwater caves of the area where nudibranchs, rare mollusks and crustaceans crawl on the rich soft coral cover.
  • Day 7: Piaynemo
  • At this western tip of Central Raja Ampat, discover Keruo Channel and Melissa’s Garden, where you can observe the most impressive shallow coral gardens on the planet.
  • In between dives, you can also enjoy surface activities, go kayaking, or walk up to the top of the hill above the Star Lagoon and look down on the hundreds of limestone rocks. You won’t be able to resist going for a dip in a hidden rock pool – sheer heaven!
  • Day 8: Kawe & Aljuy Bay
  • South Kawe is one of Raja Ampat’s greatest treasures. Here, you are likely to see manta rays grooming in one of their many cleaning stations or feeding on the surface of the channel between the two Eagle Rocks.

  • Day 9: Wayag
  • On the way to the Wayag Islands, we cross the equator to the northern hemisphere to reach the last paradise on earth, a large bay with hundreds of mushroom-like islets, white sandy beaches, black tip reef sharks and manta rays cruising in the turquoise-blue water.

  • Colourful coral grows within the roots of the trees making snorkelling and diving in Citrus and Mangrove Ridge a unique experience.
  • Day 11: Dampier Strait
  • Visit Airborek or Sawandarek Jetty and experience some world-class diving, probably under the gaze of some local children!

Forgotten island & banda sea 11D&10N

Don’t let the name fool you – cruising this long chain of islands, atolls and active volcanoes promise to be unforgettable. Each island is isolated and home to a unique marine environment where various species thrive in large numbers, from sea birds to schooling fish or even hammerhead sharks. Beyond being an absolutely exceptional destination for diving, the Banda Islands boast a rich history at the heart of the spice trade. For centuries, they were coveted by countless European countries as the sole producer of nutmeg. Dive into the past as you explore the spice plantations, Dutch fortresses, and local villages.

Our liveaboard route includes long stretches of the open sea and is therefore very weather-dependent. The best conditions are usually found in September, October & November, and April & May.

  • Day 1: Dawera
  • We’ll reach the Forgotten Islands where you can immerse yourself in the unique environment – beautiful beaches and thriving coral reefs that host a wonderful diversity of marine life. You’ll finish the day in the picturesque village of Welora, where you can get a glimpse into the local culture and dances while savoring the local food and sipping the strong coconut liquor!
  • Day 2: Dai
  • You’ll get to meet the local people of Dai Island who live in tiny villages nestled in between deep waters and high cliffs. Next, you’ll plunge into the fringing reefs where you can see huge schools of fish gathering, sometimes even hammerhead sharks. This is an island of extremes: from the landscapes to the shimmering waters, from the rich biodiversity to the strong local cultural traditions. Dai is sure to remain engraved in your memory for a long time to come…
  • Day 3: Desperandum
  • Nil Desperandum Reef is a tiny speck of coral in the middle of the Banda Sea with incredible hard coral formations and resident hammerhead sharks rising from the depths, much to the delight of divers lucky enough to see them. You’ll get to spend a full day here gazing in awe upon the shoals of big fish swimming past, including tuna and Spanish mackerel.
  • Day 4: Serua
  • Serua Island is located right at the heart of the Ring of Fire. It is an active volcano, home to only one small village, with which we have built a strong connection. In this village, perhaps the most isolated in all of Indonesia, various spices are cultivated, such as cloves, cinnamon and nutmeg and the villagers live a very simple life, surrounded by the deep vast sea. You’ll explore both the village and its amazing house reefs, teeming with big fish.
  • Day 5: Manuk
  • Manuk rises from a depth of 7000m to just 200m above sea level, and is the epitome of our Banda Sea liveaboard. Dozens of sea bird colonies patrol the skies above this very active volcano, thanks to which there are breathtaking lava flows to explore underwater. You’ll get to see sea snakes swimming gracefully around massive sponges, and perhaps even dolphins, hammerhead sharks and huge tunas.
  • Day 6: Hatta
  • Welcome to the easternmost Spice Island. While relatively flat above the water with stunning beaches, the underwater landscape features endless vertical walls. The marine life boasts astonishing diversity, from green turtles to eagle rays, from reef sharks to rare scorpion fishes – it is a delight for both divers and snorkelers, who can let themselves drift along effortlessly with the current.
  • Day 7: Banda Islands
  • We’ll enter the natural harbor of the Banda Islands where you can discover the rich history of the Spice Islands by visiting the 17th-century Dutch fortress and nutmeg plantations. Then you can go for a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear waters of Batu Kapal and Soangi Island. You’ll definitely need two days to explore this magical place.
  • Day 8 - 9: Saparua
  • You’ll wake up in front of Pombo Boi, a tiny rock with palm trees, surrounded by a superb coral reef teeming with strange, tiny creatures – heaven for underwater photographers and snorkelers. We’ll then head to Molana Island to enjoy its pristine white sandy beaches and some easy dives to finish off a beautiful trip!
  • Day 10: Ambon
