2018 Truk Lagoon Trip Report

Truk Lagoon Scuba Diving
The Truk Lagoon photo workshop, held from February 25 to March 4, 2018, offered divers the opportunity to explore WWII wrecks in depths ranging from the surface to beyond 200 feet. Highlights included diving on the Kiyosumi Maru, Yamagiri Maru, I-169 Sub, and Shinkoku Maru, with rich history, artifacts, and excellent underwater photography opportunities. The trip was well-organized by the Odyssey staff and featured spacious accommodations, calm conditions, and personal photo seminars.

WAOW Liveaboard Indonesia
We embarked on an unforgettable journey aboard the Waow in Indonesia, recounting our smooth travel experience from LAX to Denpasar, Bali. Our flights with China Eastern were comfortable, despite a minor glitch during online check-in. Upon arrival, we were awestruck by the Waow, a handcrafted ship steeped in Indonesia's pirate history. The liveaboard exceeded our expectations with spacious accommodations and exceptional diving opportunities, showcasing diverse marine life across Alor and Lembata. We relished encounters with rare species and enjoyed luxurious amenities, making it a trip of a lifetime for diving enthusiasts.

Anilao 2017 Workshop Photo Essay

Anilao Diving
The Anilao Workshop, led by Brent Durand and Tommy Stylski with macro photographer Mike Bartick, provided 22 divers with intensive macro photography experiences. Participants captured rare marine life, such as the blue ring octopus and pygmy seahorses, over ten days. The workshop included daily critiques, photo talks, and one-on-one instruction, culminating in a photo contest showcasing stunning underwater images.
Socorro Islands diving
Mark Strickland led a diverse group of 20 global divers to Socorro Islands, renowned for encounters with large marine species. Highlights included mantas, tiger sharks, and dolphins at sites like El Boiler and Roca Partida. Despite strong currents, the trip provided ample photo opportunities and unforgettable marine life interactions.

Erik Lukas led the Bluewater Photo Workshop aboard the Rocio Del Mar to Socorro Islands, Mexico. Highlights included close encounters with mantas, humpback whales, hammerheads, and vibrant marine life amid clear waters. The trip was marked by camaraderie among diverse international guests and featured excellent onboard cuisine and photography sessions.
