Dive Information

Stuart Cove's Dive Bahamas

AM 2-Tank Dive

  • Morning 2-tank dive trips cater to our certified divers who want to explore the walls, reefs, and wrecks surrounding New Providence Island. Each morning all of the boats going out do this type of dive trip (unless there is an all-day Wilderness Seafari going out).
  • All of our Hotel Packages and Dive Only packages include the 2-Tank AM dive as part of the package. Dive & Hotel packages include diving every day EXCEPT for the day of arrival and day of departure.
  • Your first dive is always a beautiful wall. On average our walls begin at 40 feet, although some are deeper. Each dive site along the wall is different and unique in its own way. The wall is wonderful for both new and advanced divers. Your divemaster leads the dives to 80 feet for 30 minutes, however, we are flexible around this as you and your buddies may prefer to stay up on the shallower ledge while others may plan their dive a bit deeper.
  • Your second dive is either a shallow reef or wreck dive. There are a number of beautiful reefs each with different coral formations and fish life. You may explore a 100-foot freighter in 50 feet of water; or the famous James Bond wreck in 40 feet of water or you may dive on the Cessna used in the filming of JAWS.
  • We decide on the specific site we will be diving on the actual dive day. This keeps us flexible and gives us an idea of what the best weather conditions are and what everyone on the boat would prefer to do.

PM 2-Tank Dive

  • Our afternoon 2-tank trip operates much like our morning 2-tank dive. A key difference between morning and afternoon trips is that in the mornings all of our boats do a 2-tank dive trip. In the afternoons we offer specialty dives and each boat is doing something different.
  • Your first dive is always a beautiful wall. On average our walls begin at 40 feet, although some are deeper. Each dive site along the wall is different and unique in its own way. All Day Diving Program

  • Our All Day Diving Program is a combination of the AM 2-Tank Dive and the PM 2-Tank Dive.
  • Your morning boat is guaranteed to return to the docks prior to your afternoon boat leaving. You will then have a very short turn around time between boat trips.
  • Lunch is available for sale in the dive shop for a nominal fee. Lunch usually consists of a sandwich, a bag of chips, and a soda or juice

The Shark Adventure

  • This could quite possibly be the most exciting dives you will ever do. Stuart Coves Shark Adventure is a 2-tank dive program which introduces thrill seeking divers to wild sharks and provides you a close up look at these magnificent and misunderstood creatures.
  • There are currently four sites where we dive with the sharks. You will dive either the combination of "Shark Wall" and "The Arena" or the combination of "Runway Wall" and "The Runway". At either location encounter a gathering of Caribbean Reef Sharks on a consistent basis.
  • Your first dive is a "Free Swim" with the sharks on a magnificent wall. The sharks will follow you throughout the dive because we are close to our feeding site and they knowthe dinner bell will ring soon. However, no bait is exposed on this dive. This keeps the sharks curious and creates a very natural encounter for divers - just as you would encounter a shark in the wild.
  • Your second dive is a shark feeding dive. Unlike ordinary dives - you will spend this dive kneeling on the sand bottom. Divers form a semi-circle in front of our professional shark feeder who will place a bait box. Your feeder utilizes this bait box and a pole spear to control the release of food which influences the sharks' behavior. While novice shark divers may not notice it - during the shark feeding dives your feeder tries to keep the sharks in a "polite" feeding posture. However be warned - the sharks will come close - very close - but they are more interested in the bait than you!

I've dived with Stuart Cove every year for the past several years (usually in May). It's a high-volume operation, with all that implies, but the price is very reasonable. Sometimes you get lucky on a boat with only a few divers, most times it's a crowd. The dive master quality is variable--some are just counting heads, others try to find interesting stuff. The dive sites are pretty well hammered on the SW side of New Providence Island, so you don't see much unusual marine life. They do a good job on the shark dives, which are my favorite.

The time I was there had a change in weather which brought in a small pod of dolphins they normally don't see. It was remarkable to see a young calf close by and see it protected by the adults. I also wanted to collect some lionfish and special arrangements were made at no extra cost to have a dedicated boat and crew help take several off the reefs. The dive master was just recovering from a severe venom injury and yet was willing to have more close encounters with this invasive fish.Roger Dolling

Real cattle boat operation with very little marine Life. We booked 4 days of diving with Stuart Coves 4 am and 2 Pm trips. The first day we had the same pickup problems, They were supposed to be there at 8:10, and at 8:30 we called and they were running late, arrived at 8:50. When we arrived, the site was very busy, disorganized, and disjointed, unlike the old place we remembered 10 years ago. The diving was sub-par as the area was basically void of animal life. we did two dives and canceled the upcoming afternoon dives and it was not worth the experience. We later canceled one of the morning dive trips as there was very little to look at as the reef was severely damaged, so they were taking us to wrecks.Date of experience: August 2021

We went to Stuarts Cove 2 years ago. We stayed at the resort they recommended which was quite nice. They had a restaurant and the rooms had kitchenettes. Stuarts Cove would pick us up in the morning. The dives were full of life including sharks. They also have a seperate shark dive you can sign up for. Our only complaint is that they cater to the cruise ships and therefore stay on a strict time schedule. The first dive was relaxed, the 2nd dive would be 30 minutes later for 30 minutes only. Because of that we would not do Stuarts again, but would go with one of the livaboards. The boats themselves were very good and helpful deckhands. They would only send a guide on the first dive, not the 2nd quickly one. Disappointed with that.

I've dove with Stuart Coves in Nassau twice, the first time in December 2011, and I visited again in 2013.Stuart Coves is a dive operator, not a resort so there aren't room accommodations. They do have a large, well stocked main lobby, which houses the diver registration, cashiers, gift/dive gear shop, and they have some cold drinks. Outside there's a grill where you can purchase things like fresh grilled burgers, hotdogs, chicken or fish sandwiches for lunch. I highly recommend the cheeseburger! They are very well established in the area, and will arrange pick up and drop off of you/your party all around the island for your diving. They also handle many of the water excursions for cruise lines and hotels, like snorkeling, snuba etc. Considering how high volume they are, I was impressed at how well organized they were, and registration went quickly. They are not inexpensive, though frankly everything in the Bahamas feels more expensive than it should be, so it's not just the price of diving. I opted to do 3 days of diving on this trip: the 2 tank AM reef/wreck dives, and PM 2 tank shark dives and also the nitrox package. It's a better value if you can book a multi day package, or do all day dives. They will group you onto different boats by experience, so have your logs/dive counts handy. If you have divers of diff experience in your party, you'll have to go with the boat going to sites appropriate for the least experienced diver in your group. Most boats had a range of 14 to 26 divers on board. They typically do the first dive fully guided, and the second dive it's optional if you want to dive with the instructor/DM. They will also have a photographer and/or videographer come on the trips as well, so you can mug for the camera if that's what you're into, and they post the photos and video in their lobby/shop within minutes of the dive completion. For reef and wreck dive quality, the sites were solid. You will likely spot a Caribbean Reef shark or two even on these dives.Really the signature dive is their shark feeding dives. They do these as 2 dive experiences. Both dives take place in the same areas, either their 'arena' in the sand, or sometimes they do it up on a wreck if there's a smaller group. The first dive allows every one to check their weights, and to get used to seeing sharks in the water with us. The resident group of sharks will be nearby, even with no bait in the water.Dive 2 is the feeding. They have all divers enter the water and kneel in a larger circle around assigned 'rocks' to keep people from moving too much around. Once everyone is down, the feeder comes in with the bait box, and the sharks swarm to follow. The feeder is wearing full chainmail, and some wear helmets as well. Their will also be a photographer and a videographer on staff in the water. The feeder will move around the circle with the photographer and videographer flanking them so that there are maximum sharks around you during photo ops. Sometimes the feeder will also demonstrate putting a shark into tonic immobility. There were anywhere from 30-40 Caribbean reef sharks surrounding us during the height of the feeding activity. The sharks are very active, so be aware that at certain times, they will bump into you. This is a very exciting dive if you want to see sharks up close. The Stuart Coves staff does an excellent job of making you feel safe, and preparing you during the briefing for what is to come. From a photography standpoint, if you are looking for feeding/frenzied shots, the feeding is where you'll get your maximum output. On this trip, I was aiming to get cleaner shots, so I focused more of my time shooting before bait was in the water. The sharks won't come nearly as close, but it's much easier to get a photo of shark and blue water vs. having a lot of divers in the photo in the background.I brought all of my own dive gear, and they have a rinse station and storage hanging area if you are doing multiple dives and want to store your gear there. Otherwise, they offer full rental equipment as well. There is also a set of outdoor freshwater showers and indoor showers/changing rooms on site.I recognized many of the instructor/guides and photograhy/video staff from my last visit there, and they were very friendly. Since I was doing so many dives over multiple days (most divers there are morning or afternoon, 2 dives only), they really let me have a lot of freedom in my dives since they knew I had my gear dialed in, and just wanted to be shooting photos.I would definitely recommend Stuart Coves if you are in Nassau and want to get in some diving. They were solid and well organized. Just be aware that they are a high volume operator, vs. a small 6-pack mom and pop operation.
