Bluewater Travel's Commitment to Sustainable Marine-Life Encounters

Responsible whale and cetacean encounters are an important part of Bluewater Travel’s commitment to sustainable marine tourism. By carefully selecting experienced local partners who follow science-based guidelines and national regulations, Bluewater ensures that wildlife interactions remain safe, respectful, and environmentally responsible. This approach helps protect fragile marine ecosystems while also providing meaningful and memorable experiences for guests. Responsible operators focus on minimizing disturbance, supporting conservation initiatives, and educating travelers about the importance of protecting whales and other cetaceans for future generations.

Moorea Whale Snorkeling

In Moorea, responsible whale encounters are centred around strict in-water protocols and small group sizes. We only work with licensed operators who maintain appropriate approach distances, limit the number of boats per whale, and prioritize passive observation rather than pursuit. Our guests are briefed on how to enter the water calmly, remain quiet, and allow whales to dictate the interaction. Boats operate at reduced speeds in whale zones and use trained spotters to ensure respectful positioning. Our operators also contribute to ongoing research projects and community education programmes that support the long-term protection of humpback whales in French Polynesia.

Mexico Marine-Life Encounters

In Mexico, our operators are committed to responsible cetacean tourism which consistently follows government-regulated guidelines designed to protect both animals and habitats. In Baja California, for example, gray whale encounters emphasize low-impact viewing from licensed pangas, with strict limits on the number of boats permitted in sensitive lagoons. In offshore destinations such as the Magdalena Bay, responsible operators avoid crowding animals, maintain safe distances, and limit engine noise to reduce stress on whales and dolphins. Our Baja operators ensure that strict guidelines are followed as to when guests can enter the water, and how many swimmers leave the boat at any one time. Our partners also collaborate with marine biologists, support local conservation NGOs, and promote sustainable coastal practices that benefit both wildlife and local communities.

Big-Blue Adventures from Indonesia to the Solomons

Indonesia

When divers talk about bucket list liveaboard routes, the same three regions keep coming up: Indonesia, the Maldives, and the Solomon Islands. They’re very different experiences, but they all have two things in common – serious diving and long memories.

We’re shining a spotlight on Emperor Liveaboards across the Indo-Pacific: Emperor Harmoni in Indonesia, Emperor Serenity in the Maldives, and Emperor Bilikiki in the Solomon Islands. Together they offer three very different ways to spend a week (or more) at sea – from classic Maldivian shark and manta channels, to Indonesian big fish and reefs, to remote tropical seascapes in the Solomons.
