Season Overview
The 2025 Bluewater Travel Moorea humpback whale swim season brought six weeks of unforgettable encounters, shifting ocean moods, and the dramatic beauty that defines the island. Bluewater Travel guests experienced everything from high-energy interactions with calves and escorts to intimate moments with singers and curious juveniles. Each group enjoyed its own flavour of adventure shaped by changing weather and whale presence, and taken as a whole, the season was a clear success.

Whale Encounters
Across the season, sightings were frequent and productive, with cooperative whales that allowed for long, relaxed in-water sessions. Mother-and-calf pairs, powerful escorts, and resonant singers were common highlights. Several groups experienced truly rare or particularly memorable encounters: extended time with multiple adults showing playful, inquisitive behaviour; close approaches from calves that swam directly up to snorkelers for eye-to-eye moments; and thrilling views of oceanic whitetip sharks across multiple weeks. Juvenile whales repeatedly breached and circled swimmers in deep blue water, and singer encounters were especially powerful - guests not only heard the songs but felt their vibrations reverberating through their bodies. Some weeks even featured unusual interspecies interactions, including pilot whales travelling alongside humpbacks.

Weather & Sea Conditions
Moorea’s weather shifted perceptibly as the season progressed. Early weeks brought calm seas, manageable swell, and consistently clear visibility. Mid-season introduced a few rough days and larger swells, yet even then, the groups secured excellent whale time. Toward the end of the season, windier afternoons and building swell created longer gaps between encounters. Despite these challenges, guides and guests adapted smoothly, repositioning around the island, spending time with singers when conditions demanded patience, or enjoying lagoon wildlife on slower days.

Guest Experience & Highlights
Guest feedback was overwhelmingly positive. Many described profound appreciation for the calm, trusting whales, especially mothers resting with their calves or circling the snorkelers at close range. The camaraderie within groups was a defining element of each week, with guests often dining together or exploring the island on rest days. Extra activities added to the magic: Stingray City stops, lagoon drift snorkels, split-shot photography sessions, island tours, and cultural evenings.
Each week had its own signature moment. Some guests experienced a calf swimming directly up to their mask for an unforgettable eye-to-eye connection. Others watched multiple adults circle the group and roll belly-up in deliberate, curious displays. Juvenile whales breached repeatedly at close range, oceanic whitetips patrolled around singers, and several groups spent extended time with resting trios composed of a mother, calf, and escort.

Operations, Guiding & Logistics
Operations ran smoothly throughout the season. The boat operator continued to demonstrate strong guiding skills, an emphasis on safety, and clear communication about regulations. Guides made thoughtful adjustments to water positioning when needed, enhancing encounters while maintaining responsible practices. Boats were comfortable and well-maintained, offering reliable full days on the water, and onboard lunches remained a guest favourite.
Accommodation varied between Cook’s Bay Resort and Manava Resort. Guests appreciated Cook’s Bay for its practical layout and kitchenettes, while many preferred Manava’s traditional Polynesian atmosphere and warm island ambience.

Post-Trip Extensions
Several guests added diving extensions to Moorea, Fakarava, and Rangiroa. While Moorea’s coral remains in poor condition, shark and turtle sightings continued to impress. Fakarava and Rangiroa delivered exceptional drift dives known for their high-energy shark encounters - an exciting conclusion to an already memorable trip.
Conclusion
Bluewater Travel’s 2025 Moorea humpback whale season delivered standout experiences across every program. From spectacular whale behaviour to strong guiding, smooth logistics, and the unmistakable charm of Moorea, guests left with deep gratitude for the whales and the island. The season was not only successful but carried the sense of wonder and connection that defines the very best whale-swim adventures.
