Dive Information & Itineraries

Dive Sites

Grand Turk is surrounded by walls covered in sponges and corals starting at 25 feet (7 meters) before plunging 7000 feet (1230 meters) straight down, it is guaranteed to take your breath away. Grand Turk has the 3RD LARGEST BARRIER REEF IN THE WORLD located directly off famous Pillory Beach here at the Bohio Dive Resort. Here are some of our favorite dive sites:

  • McDonalds - Situated to the north-west of the island, McDonalds is a fine example of a Turks and Caicos dive site — the location is a particular favorite site here at Bohio. Starting in depths of 30 feet (9 meters), divers approach the wall at McDonalds swimming west. The sand gradually slopes to about 40 feet (12 meters) before plunging to around 55 feet (17 meters), and right over the lip can be seen a magnificent coral arch — hence “McDonalds” (the fast food joint). The arch creates a fantastic swim through (“drive-thru”) where divers can swim out on the other side at a depth of 60 feet (19 meters). Here you will find yourself blissfully suspended over the cobalt blue of the abyssal ocean!
  • The Anchor - The Anchor is located to the west of Grand Turk’s middle section, and as you may have guessed, a huge, old anchor can be found at the site, sitting motionless on top of the wall at around 35 feet (10 meters). Thought to be over 100 years old, the ship that the anchor once belonged to is not known, but its design is consistent with that of a British warship of HM Royal Navy. Coral and sponges now encrust the rusty chunk of metal, the chains of which are still evident, and an abundance of aquatic wildlife is
  • attracted to the area, hovering around the anchor as if it has a magnetic pull.
  • The Aquarium - The furthermost northern dive site off just off Grand Turk, located within the Columbus National Marine Park, The Aquarium takes its name from the huge array of wildlife that regularly gathers at the spot. The soft corals here are incredibly lush, and the site is unique in that it boasts an alternative reef of spur and groove coral formations — fantastic to look at!
  • Black Forest - Commencing at 35 feet (11 meters) divers are only moments away from dropping off Grand Turk’s world-famous wall after jumping in the water at the Black Forest. The site is completely unique, because there is an undercut in the wall here, which produces a great shadow along its face. Divers are therefore duped into thinking the area is deeper — this is interesting because black coral is usually found at depths of around 150-200 feet (60 meters). There are also some other incredible sponge growths to be witnessed here. Don’t forget to take your flashlight to reveal the true colors of the forest!

Diving with Bohio

The dive boat goes out at 9 am each day directly from the beach here at the resort. We return to Bohio for shore interval for coffee and warm up on the deck! The servers will meet you at this time and take your lunch order. The second dive departs around 11 am or so and when you return your lunch is ready! The boat is loaded and unloaded for you each day and equipment is rinsed and hung up for you in our dive shop. The dive boats are for in-house guests only. The dive masters are reserved for you the entire time and provide a briefing each day on the dive boat, a guided tour of each site and plenty of time for divers to explore on their own as well! Morning Dives are not inter-changeable with afternoon or night dives.

Shore Diving

Shore diving is free and unlimited in the afternoons as long as accompanied by a dive buddy. The Grand Turk Wall is a 15-20 minute swim from shore although there are rocky ledges close in to explore. If a guest wants to shore dive then we recommend that after their two morning boat dives they have lunch and then let the Dive Master drop them on the Wall before he puts the boat away, this then saves their air on the swim out, they can always snorkel back in if low on air. So, the shore diving is great once you're at the Wall but it's a long swim if you don't get dropped by boat can be arranged once here with the dive master. It is preferable to have Bohio drop you on our dive boat at the famous wall 300 yards off the beach and return on your own.

I just went to Bohio in April of 2021 and stayed for a week on Grand Turk Island. Grank Turk is an enchanting place where you can rent golf carts for the week to drive around the small island. It has nice rooms. But they are basic, don't expect 5 star hotel quality here. Rooms have good A/C and are clean. No TV but good wifi. The diving here vs the liveboard diving in T&C is way better. Its only 5 min off the beach so super accessible. They only do 3 dives a day and no night dives which was a bummer. Food is expensive on T&C, think Hawaii prices and that goes for here. $22 for a Caesar salad...really? But the food is good. Saturday night is reggae night with a great BBQ. Biggest challenge is communicating with Bohio as they do everything by email vs calling someone on the phone. However 85% of the people have been vaccinated on the island so I felt super safe there. Overall it was not cheap for a week here. About 2500 to 3000. But you have beaches to yourselves with incredible sunsets and amazing dives right off your doorstep. I would love to come back here for Christmas or New Years...its and enchanting island and an enchanting place.

I had been diving in the Turks & Caicos Islands, based in Providenciales, several times but wanted to try Grand Turk. We stayed at Bohio Dive Resort. Our dive package included accommodations, diving, breakfast, and lunch every day. The resort only has 16 rooms, so it's never crowded. We stayed in a beachfront standard king room. It has a wonderful ocean/beach view from your private balcony. The room is furnished with a king-size bed, TV, mini-refrigerator, A/C, and ceiling fan. Beach towels are also provided. The room was adequate and kept clean with daily maid service, but we thought a little renovation was in order. The resort is located on Pillory Beach, a beautiful white sand expanse with lounge chairs and beach umbrellas. There's also a pool. The grounds are kept immaculate and the lobby and restaurant areas are beautiful. They have a small gift shop and offer spa services in your room from an outside vendor.

Breakfast and lunch (included in our package) are served on the outdoor patio next to the beach. You place your lunch order before leaving for the morning dives so they can have it ready for you shortly after returning to the resort. We ate dinner at the onsite restaurant every night. Jorika, the executive chef, changes the menu daily and prepares many cuisines, including Greek, Indian, Thai, Italian, and Spanish. They also offer a Saturday night barbecue, with reggae music, on the outdoor patio and Sunday brunch. We found all the food delicious, although somewhat pricey.

Diving is provided by the onsite dive operation, which was very professional and dedicated to giving scuba divers the best dives available. We did a lot of wall diving with swim throughs, canyons, and coral arches. There's an abundance of corals (including black coral at easily diveable depths) and plenty of marine animals, including friendly groupers. The boat picks you up right on the beach in front of the dive resort.

Bottom line: This is a beautiful beachfront dive resort with great amenities and world class diving. Two small negatives were that some cruise passengers came to Pillory Beach for a day trip and local children came to swim at the resort pool, sometimes monopolizing the deck and pool. These were not big problems for us and we never complained to management.
