In November 2013 we experienced the spectacular diving and stunning landscape of Raja Ampat in Indonesia. We were hosted by Reef, Wreck and Critter aboard Greater Komodo's Temu Kira. From Western Australia, we travelled to Bali before flying via Makassar in South Sulawesi, where we stayed over night, to our destination of Sorong on the western tip of West Papua New Guinea. We were met by representatives of Greater Komodo who assisted us with transfer by vehicle to the port, approximately 15 minutes from the airport.

Everything aboard the Temu Kira was fist class. This was our third trip to Indonesia and this was by far the best boat we had stayed on in this area. Typical of the Indonesian style liveaboards, the Temu Kira provided comfortable accommodation with air conditioning and private ensuites. A noteworthy point is that the linen, bath towels and beach towels were changed 3 times during our 10 night trip. This is greatly appreciated in areas where humidity can be high.

We were treated to a variety of fresh food daily, with 3 meals per day and snacks between dives. The quality and freshness of the food was extremely good and catered to all dietary requirements. No-one aboard this trip suffered the dreaded bali-belly..again, a very rare occurrence in these areas. My favourite was definitely the fresh juices daily and western style breakfast with good quality produce. We were also treated to the delicious Indonesian staples of Nasi Goreng, noodles and fresh vegetables.

The crew and their knowledge of the area, together with their insight into what divers and particularly photographers need was first class. The air fills were generous and the quality of the air fills clean. With two tenders, divers were quickly and efficiently whisked away to dive sites. The crew very quickly came to know which camera and scuba equipment belonged to who and your gear was always ready for every dive. They ran a very 'tight ship' with regard to storage of gear and handling of equipment. They took exceptional care of camera equipment, rinsing in fresh water and air drying your gear. The facilities for charging batteries and downloading photos was ample for everyone aboard.

Raja Ampat is like the "eighth" wonder of the world. The diving is world class and primarily suited to wide angle photography, but there are some special macro moments too. There are strong currents in this area and it is recommend for experienced divers. It is the currents that provide nutrient rich waters filled with amazing corals and abundant marine species. Above water Raja Ampat provides a landscape, sometimes so breathtaking, that it rendered us speechless.
