Sunset Cove Beach & Dive Resort Romblon

We were here for three weeks in November 2023 and loved every minute of our stay. The rooms are clean, comfortable and spacious. Charro (owner/manager) brought in extra tables, chairs and power strips to accommodate our camera equipment (no camera room, no problem). There are only five rooms at the resort, so it is peaceful and personable. The food was healthy and plentiful and the cook went out of his way to accommodate our vegan requests. He creatively turned out many tasty meals from his small and immaculate kitchen. The grounds are lush and the pool is relaxing. The staff were exemplary and we thanked them with a little holiday party at the end of our stay. They all live in a village immediately behind the resort on the small island of Alad. It is well worth it to walk through the village with one of the staff.
The diving, of course, THE DIVING is exemplary if you enjoy macro and super macro. I went to Romblon specifically to see Melibe colemani (“Ghost Nudi”) and I was not disappointed- I lost count of how many times I saw it! Many sea slugs, shrimp (Sashimi, hairy, algae & Donald Duck) , pygmy seahorses, Lembeh Seadragon, cowries. The guides are excellent and. Private guide is complementary. The boats are the usual bangkas; the rides were one minute (house reef) to 30 minutes (Cobrador Island).
Romblon is a special place for diving. A little work to get there, but we’ll worth the effort.

Atmosphere Resort is simply beautiful. We stayed in one of their garden bungalows that was conveniently located near the dining hall, bar and dive center. The grounds are extensive and lush. Our room was spacious and luxurious. The food was delicious; the restaurant manager Ed went out of his way to make sure we had adequate vegan choices. There was in fact an entire vegan menu for all meals plus vegan specials.

The staff in the dive center, reception, dining hall, and housekeeping were all attentive and accommodating. The dive center has a nice open lounge area in front of the white board with the schedule and a second white board for dive briefings. The camera room was well supplied .I loved the two large locker rooms with fans blowing in the back to dry out gear. The rinse tanks are well labeled. The crew will take your camera and gear to and from the boats which are a short walk away. The speedboats are not large, but a large boat is used for trips to Apo Island. (Do not miss a trip to Apo Island)

The diving was incredible. Water temperature was 81-83 degree F. in the last two weeks of April. The visibility was generally quite good (40-60 feet). We saw many MANY frogfish (Painted, Hairy), ocellate octopus (Mototi), hairy shrimp, mouth-brooding cardinal fish, mandarin fish, sea snakes , turtles, a large school of squid, and amazing nudibranchs.

I would highly recommend diving in Dauin and staying at the Atmosphere Resort.

Solitude Acacia Dive Resort

We stayed at the Solitude Acacia in April 2023 for two weeks and loved it. We were so spoiled by all of the attentive staff in housekeeping, grounds crew, dining room and dive center. Our dive guide Barry was an amazing critter finder. One day we went to a site called “Bethlehem” which he referred to as the “nudi capital of the world” and this is already in Anilao which is nudi heaven! Every time he called me over with a new critter, I would find a few more on my way! Incredible. The Anilao Pier is a the site of a not- to be-missed night dive. One of our favorite non-nudi finds was seeing cardinal fish aerating the eggs in their mouths.
The resort was recently renovated and just beautiful and peaceful. The birds in the acacia trees were magical at sunrise and sunset. The room was spacious with a large balcony. The dining hall was very nice and the food was very good; many people (tourists and locals) came there just for a special meal. I only rated the food four stars because our options as vegans were limited. I never swam in the pool because I was always diving but the resort does use the pool for teaching purposes (PADI courses).
The resort is owned by Filipinos, but managed by Solitude (out of Singapore) . We met divers from all over the world there. The camera room is excellent with an adjacent lounge. The dive staff were helpful in terms of taking our camera and equipment on and off the boats , helping wash and hang wetsuits. The Solitude boats were newish and sturdy.
I would highly recommend this resort and the diving in Anilao.
